End of the 2018 Soccer Season

The 2018 soccer season flew by in the blink of an eye.  For the first time in recent history, GISNY was able to compete against Varsity opponents all round the local area.  One of the main reasons for the development and success of our Interscholastic Soccer program is the leadership shown by our veteran seniors.  Enno Leitner, Paul Rothfuss, Tim Collins, and Jonas Gobbels have exemplified the characteristics that every coach dreams of in sports. These players have shown their teammates and the younger players in our program what it takes to excel on and off the field.  Their hard work, reliability, character, and leadership helped build the culture of our school and sports programs.  Congratulations to our seniors and all they have done for the program and school.
The Varsity team ended their season with some hard fought, tough losses, but there is a silver lining in every lesson!  In a hard fought loss against the French American School (FASNY), Valentine Rentschler showed promise for the future of the team.  The 9th grader scored two goals in the 3-2 loss.  The team bounced back a couple of days later with a 5-5 tie against EF International Academy.  10th graders Lukas Schmalhofer and Moritz Bergmann continued their scoring streaks, scoring a goal and an assist each in the game.  Enno Leitner and Paul Rothfuss also recorded a goal in the matchup.
The Varsity team finished the season with a 5-2-1 record.
The modified soccer team remained unbeaten for the THIRD CONSECUTIVE year.  They capped off the end of the season with a 2-1 victory over Eastern Greenwich and a 3-0 shutout against Brunswick School.  Tomas Langendorf was stellar in net, providing his 2nd shutout of the season.  Simon Collins, Sebastian Newman, and Leonard Rentschler each scored a goal in the final match.
Congrats to both teams on another great season!
