Ford v Ferrari is one of 2019’s most critically acclaimed movies, I saw it and here is my take on it.

Ford v Ferrari tells the story of the 1966 24 hours of Le Mans race and the making of one of the greatest race cars of all time: the Ford GT40. The story is centered around the driver and mechanic Ken Miles (Christian Bale) and the car developer and salesman Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon). At the beginning of the story Ford is struggling and they need to find a new way to advertise the company. A Marketing Rep (Jon Bernthal) wants Ford to compete in the prestigious 24 hours of Le Mans endurance race to make the company more appealing to the younger generations who are interested in fast and sporty cars. After Henry Ford II (Tracy Letts) gives his OK, Ken Miles and Carroll Shelby take on the challenge of creating a car that can compete with Ferrari, who have dominated in recent years. Along the way they face challenges of and on the track. The film comes to it’s climax at the 1966 Le Mans race where Ford finally take on Ferrari in the most difficult race in the world.

The whole cast is great and especially Oscar winner Christian Bale who played Ken Miles impressed me, no wonder that he got nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance. The Visuals where good all round and in particular the racing parts were where the film started to show it’s qualities. The writing is not spectacular, but the film manages to create tension and excitement without over dramatizing the real story. All the cars looked extremely realistic and some of the shots were incredible, especially in IMAX , the sound design and supporting music completed an immersive and incredibly entertaining experience. I would recommend Ford v Ferrari to anyone who is interested in stories that do not rely on extreme action and that are willing to take it easy to create a compelling story as well as to anyone who is a racing fan or passionate about cars in general. Overall I would give the Film a rating of 8.5/10 and would say that it is definitely one of the best movies of 2019.
